The Production and Maintenance Manager is responsible for the production of dairy products in accordance with the manufacturing procedures to meet the established quality standards. Oversee all activities pertaining to the maintenance department, including the repair and maintenance of the facility and equipment.
- Oversee manufacturing and packaging operations, ensuring compliance with production, productivity, and quality programs.
- Ensure HACCP food safety standards, quality control requirements, all recipes and instructions are followed in each department and each operator is familiar with the MOP’s applicable to their position.
- Control and allocate the appropriate financial, human and technical resources as needed.
- Ensure the preventative maintenance and work order system is being updated and maintained for all plant equipment, refrigeration, boilers, compressors, and other utilities. In cooperation with the Supervisor, Foreman and Assistant Foreman, prioritize and schedule preventative maintenance on all applicable equipment to ensure breakdowns and downtime is minimized.
- Maintain maintenance and repair records for all plant equipment using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Add new equipment into this system as the equipment is installed in the plant, along with preventative maintenance tasks as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Provide the production team and maintenance staff with technical support in order to resolve production related problems.
- Coordinate with the Manufacturing and Warehousing Departments to ensure equipment is being repaired and maintained in a timely and efficient manner.
- Manage production schedules and staffing levels for all manufacturing departments making sure proper planning and coordination for different products is achieved.
- Schedule equipment sanitary preventive maintenance, CCP calibrations and ensure completion of sanitation records.
- Work with Internal Departments, Outside Contractors and Technical Services to plan, coordinate and execute plant projects of under $100,000. Propose and rationalize capital expenditure projects for the plant, including improvement projects aimed at occupational health and safety.
- Authorize all work performed by outside contractors and ensure contractors are aware of our safety policies and procedures, and ensure supervision is in place for these contractors.
- Maintain spare parts inventory for all equipment in the plant. Ensure spare parts are ordered from suppliers as needed to prevent unnecessary delays in repairs to equipment while working within established budgets.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure Production Supervisors deliver weekly crew talks and Maintenance Supervisor and Foreman conduct daily toolbox talks with staff.
- Ensure regular housekeeping audits are conducted to confirm the manufacturing areas meet or exceed the acceptable level of cleanliness as reasonably expected by GMP and Safety standards.
- Resolve production, maintenance, quality, health & safety, environmental and labour relation issues; capitalizing on available resources, such as team members, individuals for and other departments, and external resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience, preferably in the food industry, including 5 years in a similar position.
- Experience in a unionized environment is a plus
- Solid problem solving, leadership and communication skills

Agropur , a leading manufacturer of ice cream, novelties and mochi in Canada, is accepting applications for part time workers for its production facility located at 85 Blakeney Drive, Truro, Nova Scotia. Starting rate of pay is $18.48 per hour.
Individuals considered for these positions must possess a Grade 12 or equivalent education, a strong commitment to workplace safety and be able to work 40 hours per week, shift work, weekends and overtime as required. Duties will include all areas of production or warehouse as required.
This is a fast-paced environment in a food processing plant. The ideal candidates will have the ability to follow precise procedures, possess excellent hand and eye co-ordination and effectively communicate and work well with others. Previous experience in a food processing plant or warehouse environment will be considered an asset.
