As a member of the Payroll team, you will be instrumental in helping process payroll information through the preparation of accurate and timely employee payrolls by conducting analysis and reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and providing high quality customer service. What you’ll do

Process all pertinent payroll information for all University employees accurately and within strict deadlines.
Generate reports and processes salary adjustments such as scheduled increases, vacation pay, overtime, sick leave, temporary assignments, increments, stipends, shift differential, leave of absences, and collective agreement settlements and generate the appropriate pay transaction.
Prepare and reconcile various remittances and reports in order to meet CRA, WSBC, Service Canada, and Statistics Canada requirements, and makes remittance payments.
Prepare monthly reports to various government, union, and financial agencies. Assist in the preparation of annual and ad hoc reports within specific timelines, including reports for BC Pension Corporation, United Way, Foundation, MoveUP, CFA and the University’s year-end financial statements and budget requirements.
Prepare journal entries to record all salary payments and deductions per payroll records and reconciles to G/L.

What you’ll bring

The equivalent of 2 years of post-secondary courses in Accounting/Finance including payroll courses such as those required for the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification.
Three years of directly related job experience.

We are looking for Instructors to teach Intermediate through Provincial level articulated Adult Upgrading (ABE) courses off campus at the Squamish Nation’s Eslha7an Adult Learning Centre in North Vancouver. Eslha7an is an Indigenous Learning Centre, open to all Indigenous people. In alignment with a Special Program approved by the BC Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, this position’s duties are focused on supporting Indigenous students and as such, applicants who self identify as Indigenous or having Indigenous ancestry may be given preference in the recruitment process. This is a quarter time position with the potential for other work in the department, depending on successful candidate’s areas of expertise, experience, knowledge and interests.

Nature and Scope of Work

Capilano University and the Squamish Nation Eslha7an Learning Centre are expanding their programming onsite at Eslha7an. We are introducing an Intermediate to Provincial Level Adult Upgrading/Provincial Adult Diploma program to the Fundamental program currently offered.

All courses being offered are articulated in the BC Articulation Guide: https://www.bctransferguide.ca/docs/ABE2020.pdf. We are hiring faculty to fill positions at Eslha7an. This posting is for an Instructor(s) to teach Education and Career Planning and/or First Nation Studies.

The successful candidate(s) will teach in a self-paced, multi-level, community-based setting. The ideal candidate(s) will have:
• Experience teaching in community settings, using an asset-based approach to teaching.
• Experience teaching Indigenous students
• Versed in Indigenous and decolonized approaches to teaching, with a trauma-informed practice lens.
• Proven ability to work in collaboration with First Nation partners.
• A demonstrated ability to work with students having diverse needs, including academic, personal/familial and community.
• The ability to create a community of confidence and openness in the classroom.
• The competencies to teach from the Intermediate to the Provincial Level.
• Experience teaching ABE in self-paced, multi-level, continuous intake classes.
• The ability to adapt courses to the particular context of the Eslha7an Learning Centre while maintaining integrity to articulated course outcomes.
• A minimum Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline.
• A clear self-care plan.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to perform their duties following established Capilano University and Squamish Nation COVID-19 protocols while these are in effect. Training on protocols will be provided. There is also potential for other work in the Community Development and Outreach Department (on and off campus) including Student Success Skills Instruction (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous focused courses).

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred, minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
• Experience working in Adult Upgrading with a Community Development and empowerment approach

• Successful completion of a teacher education program or Masters degree preferred.

The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) provides educational leadership that supports excellence in teaching to the university community. The CTE offers several educational development programs such as the Instructional Skills Workshop, Teaching Squares, faculty peer mentoring, communities of practices, faculty learning communities, individual consultations, curriculum design, teaching with technology, and an annual Teaching and Learning Symposium.

Required Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate is flexible, positive and works well in a collaborative team environment. In this role the candidate will promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning while carrying out the following responsibilities:

Plan, implement and evaluate educational development programs for faculty across the university, with an emphasis on effective teaching, student learning, experiential learning, and other priority areas as they are evolved by faculty and supported by the university
Deliver and provide direction for professional development programs and events for faculty and staff including the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), new faculty orientations, identified workshops for new and experienced faculty, and course design workshops
Consult and advise faculty in curriculum development according to evidence-informed best practices for student learning such as high impact educational practices
Advise faculty in effective and innovative teaching practices through formal and informal individual and group consultations, resource creation, and workshop and institute delivery
Support faculty in course development, delivery and assessment of meaningful learning experiences
Supports faculty in developing, reusing, and remixing Open Educational Resources (OER)
Consult and advise faculty on pedagogically sound uses of technology in teaching
Provide general support to faculty on educational technologies including Moodle and other adopted technologies
Provide support to faculty concerning online blended learning development opportunities.
Work with faculty on specific course-related needs (e.g., designing and using rubrics, active learning strategies, and assessment)
Develop a repository of faculty support materials such as instructional resources and website resources
Facilitate communities of practice and faculty learning communities
Work with faculty on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). This may include facilitating and engaging in research, presentations, and grant proposals.
Collaborate with the university community on open education practices
Collaborate with institutional units on teaching-related initiatives and programs (e.g., UDL)
Develop tools and processes that support an outcomes-based approach to learning
Assist in the delivery and programming of a Certificate Program in University Teaching and new faculty workshops.
Disseminate and promote knowledge on teaching and learning
Supports new projects as requested by the Director, Centre for Teaching Excellence
Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education or a related field
Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW) certificate
Prior experience teaching at the post-secondary level
2 years’ experience working in educational and faculty development at the post-secondary level

Knowledge of current research in teaching and learning, best practices, and standards of teaching excellence (active learning and strategies for student engagement)
Demonstrated skills in teaching and educational development abilities

What you’ll do
