As a Traffic Engineer you will be responsible for the safe movement of all users of the transportation network. You will manage operational projects and design in the areas of traffic design, signal construction projects, signal timings, operational improvements, cycling infrastructure, and traffic safety improvements. You will collaborate with internal and external resources and stakeholders. As a Traffic Engineer you are required to review various types of designs so they should be detail-oriented and familiar with traffic operations, especially in the areas of signage and road marking. Primary Duties include:

  • Provide professional engineering support and assistance while ensuring safety standards are adhered to.
  • Review and approve signage and road marking plans in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Review Construction Drawings, Circulations, and Traffic Impact Assessments.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from the public or other stakeholders.
  • Mentor and train technicians and EITs.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.
  • At least 3 years of post P.ENG experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
  • Knowledge of Synchro and a basic understanding of ArcGIS (ArcMap).
  • Familiarity of Traffic engineering principles, TAC Guidelines and general traffic operation standards, including service, capacity analysis, traffic detour management, safety considerations, and traffic impact studies.
  • Understanding of provincial legislation, regulation and standards as they pertain to traffic engineering and operations is desired.
  • Success in the position requires the following competencies:
    • Ability to work well and exercise good judgment and diplomacy under pressure; capable of dealing with multiple stakeholders, responsibilities and projects.
    • Demonstrated experience in establishing, developing and maintaining long-term, supportive relationships.
    • Ability to work cohesively in a team environment.
    • Ability to be creative, challenge and demonstrate initiative to generate improvements and foster positive outcomes.
    • Willingness to try alternative approaches, open to the ideas of others.
    • Tolerance for ambiguity, shifting priorities and complex situations.
    • Familiarity with objectively thinking through impacts of initiatives in a public sector setting.
    • Ability to think strategically while applying strong analytical skills.

As the Open Data Strategist you will advance The City’s Open Data Program and manage all aspects of the Open Data Portal (data.calgary.ca) to ensure that high quality data sets are made available to the public in a timely and cost effective manner while safeguarding The City and its data assets. Primary duties include:

  • Manage a diverse work portfolio and proactively build strategic relationships across the organization to leverage partnering opportunities to further the Open Data Program.
  • Communicate with partners and stakeholders to clearly articulate the value proposition, gain commitment and facilitate change to publish data openly.
  • Demonstrate the value of Open Data through storytelling and business case development.
  • Research current and emerging industry trends in Open Data including leading vendors, standards, data analysis, use cases, licensing and legislation. Collaborate with partners to develop multi-year plans that reflect findings.
  • Connect and engage with data stewards across The City’s business units to identify, evaluate and publish new datasets to the portal.
  • Collaborate and engage with citizens and external parties regarding The City’s Open Data Program and related events.
  • Contribute to broader corporate data governance, policy and strategy.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Social Science, Communications or related field.
  • At least 1 year of related experience.
  • Success in this position requires strong consulting, facilitation, political acumen, and communication skills for engagement and buy-in with a variety of levels of leadership.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Reporting to the Leader Innovation, Intellectual Property & Data Access, as the Innovation Designer you will bring knowledge and experience in digital, civic and social innovation to support the evolution of City service deliveries. Primary Duties include:
Identify opportunities to support and foster development of more collaborative and innovative teams within City staff.
Design and lead professional development opportunities and experiences for City staff and external partners in civic and social innovation tools and methods.
Provide expertise in digital, civic and social innovation practices, principles and methodologies including knowledge of trends in civic and social innovation in Canada and globally.
Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to advance the goals of the program including proactively identifying and fostering relationships with ‘unlikely’ partners including in the Calgary Innovation Ecosystem and similar groups to explore how The City might leverage the talent and energy externally to improve our city.
Provide innovation subject matter expertise to and participates on departmental and corporate initiatives that have the potential to shift the way that the corporation does business, with an emphasis of design of human-centred, natively-digital services.
Apply strategic and process design expertise to ensure activities and resources are aligned to Corporate and departmental priorities
Lead innovation knowledge production, translation.

Qualifications

A university degree in Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Geography, Engineering, Commerce, Urban planning, Communications or a related field plus at least 5 years of related experience.
Knowledge and/or experience in service design (especially digital), user experience, business development, financial strategy, or economic development would be considered to be an asset.
Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, along with well-developed consulting and facilitation skills.
The ability to self-direct and work both independently and collaboratively with others to achieve joint, high quality outputs in a timely fashion.
