Job Summary
Human Resources is committed to a vision where employees are engaged, supported, and inspired to achieve excellence at Dalhousie University. A unit within Human Resources, Retirement Services administers the benefits of the Dalhousie Pension Plan. Reporting to the Senior Pension Advisor & Manager, Retirement Services, the incumbent is a key resource in several aspects of the operation of Pension Administration including processing of retirements, death benefits, buybacks, and pension division.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Senior Pension Advisor to resolve complex issues involving Dalhousie Pension Plan rules, Nova Scotia Pensions & Benefit Act, and Federal Income Tax Act.
Provide consultation services to Plan members and beneficiaries through personal interviews and written correspondence regarding plan benefits and complex situations or life events such as retirement, marital breakdown, and death.
Impart expert advice regarding pension administration to internal and external contacts, and collaborate with team members to ensure pension information is accurate, relevant and accessible.
Analyze and approve purchases of past service and portability transfers based on interpretation of Plan rules and legislation.
Manage employer administration requirements relating to the Public Service Superannuation Pension Plan (PSSP) and provide professional services to internal and external clients including liaising with the Nova Scotia Pension Services Corporation to resolve complex issues.
Collaborate with internal staff to verify salary information, interest rates and benefit entitlements applicable to the PSSP and the Supplemental Arrangement plan.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in relevant field such as business or human resource management, or other undergraduate degree with Human Resource Management Certificate, plus a minimum of five years’ related experience in human resources administration (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
Strong mathematical, interpretation, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience with information systems including databases and query/reporting tools.
Assets
Certification in the field of Pension Administration.
Experience within a university or unionized environment.

Job Description

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

The sessional instructor will be responsible for the delivery of PHYT 5020.3: Introduction to Computers for Data Acquisition and ProcessingPHYT 5020 is an elective graduate course taught in the School of Physiotherapy. This introductory course provides a basic knowledge of data visualization, processing and acquisition methods through the use of MATLAB® and LabVIEW® technical computing environments. This course is intended to introduce these programs to individuals who are enrolled in an MSc or PhD program with minimal background knowledge in mathematics, computer programming and data management.
The course is structured with 1 lecture (50 minutes) and 2 – 2-hour tutorials each week. The lectures are online and asynchronous and the tutorials are in-person. Tutorials are utilized for self-directed and facilitated time with the course professor for students to work through the assigned course work. The tutorials for the Winter 2023 are scheduled. The first day of class is during the week of Jan 9 and will continue for the winter term.
The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class. In addition, the instructor will hold regular office hours for consultation with students. A laptop computer with LabVIEW and MATLAB installed will be provided for the instructor for course administration.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
PhD or Masters degree. Knowledge of LabVIEW and MATLAB computing environments. Previous teaching experience (especially with graduate students) and experience with online learning management systems (i.e. Brightspace) preferred. Previous experience either assisting or as a student in PHYT 5020 required
