Job Description

Position Summary

The Talent Acquisition Advisor is a member of the Canada-wide Talent team, responsible for providing talent sourcing, hiring and recruitment guidance and recommendations to Dentons members across its six Canadian offices. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition and is a member of the business services team.

With a focus on high quality client service, the Talent Acquisition Advisor works collaboratively with our Talent Centres of Excellence (COE) to develop solutions to the recruitment and hiring needs of each of Denton’s hiring managers. A true business partner, the Talent Acquisition Advisor ensures the implementation of the Denton national recruitment strategy. A key area of responsibility includes attracting the best legal support and business service professionals for roles within the Dentons team.

What You Will Be Doing

Provide full life-cycle recruitment support and guidance to client groups, cultivating strong working relationships with hiring managers across business portfolios.
Develop innovative, inclusive, exciting job language to attract the right candidates for each position
Screen candidates by reviewing resumes and job applications, and performing phone screenings
Plan interviews and selection procedures, including calls, assessments and online as well as in-person interviews
Act as an advisor to client groups
Provide proactive client and candidate management
Conduct sourcing for some roles for passive talent in order to deliver a cost effective recruitment strategy
Ensure all screening, hiring, and selection is done in accordance with appropriate employment laws and regulations
Work with hiring managers to drive the interview and offer process including verbal offers, reference checks, background checks and salary recommendations
Actively participates in local industry and HR associations; and
Work with the Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition to incorporate an Inclusive, Diverse, and Equitable (ID&E) approach to Denton’s talent attraction strategy and candidate experience
Other related duties as assigned

What Qualifications Will You Need

University degree in a related field; HR designation is an asset; equivalencies will be considered
5+ years of Human Resources experience in a recruitment role, including demonstrated experience in sourcing talent through various recruitment channels
Prior experience at a law firm or a professional services firm is an asset
Experience with HRIS and/or ATS for the purposes of recruitment
A strong commitment to service excellence with demonstrated experience in client service work
Experience in recruitment marketing and social media sourcing including the use of LinkedIn recruiter tools
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to handle concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong commitment to service excellence
Highly skilled communicator with the ability to share information clearly and effectively with different audiences
Strong team player who excels at collaborating and developing productive working relationships with key internal clients, as well as with Talent team colleagues
Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct; exercises good judgement; seasoned interpersonal skills with a high level of tact and discretion, sound judgment and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential matter
Preference may be given to candidates with experience sourcing and recruiting legal services professionals including, but not limited to, legal assistants, law clerks, and paralegals
Fluently bilingual in English and French is considered a strong asset

Job Description

Position summary 

Dentons Canada is seeking an experienced financial professional to join our Finance Team as the Director of Finance & Operations for the Calgary office. Reporting directly to the CFO and dotted line to the Calgary Office Managing Partner (OMP), the incumbent will work closely with senior management at the Calgary office level, OMP and Local Practice Group Leaders (LPGLs), creating a real and active partnership. The incumbent will provide ‘real time’ support and financial analysis and be relied upon as a trusted advisor, adding value that will assist in decision-making. Critical to the incumbent’s success is an ability to communicate her or his message, to understand the audience and deliver the information in a clear and concise manner. It is this mix of analytical, financial, business and communication skills which are at the heart of successful finance business partnering.
The incumbent will be ultimately responsible for the operations of the Calgary accounting team and act as a liaison between 1) the Calgary accounting team, the lawyers and the assistants and 2) the National Finance Centres of Excellence (accounts payable, billing and cash collections). Critical to the incumbent’s success is an ability to understand and support the accounting operations of a law firm (including month end close and trust accounting), analyse results, supervise and motivate employees.   The position must be based in Calgary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Serve as a business partner and advisor to the Calgary management team (OMP and LPGL): provide analysis and deliver insight that links financial reports to business strategies
•    Support OMP on management and strategic planning of the office:
o    strategic planning
o    practice management (including time entry, billing and utilization tracking and reporting)
o    space planning
o    attending partner meetings (including preparation of underlying financial reports)
o    partner compensation – including preparation of analysis to support the annual compensation process
o    guidance on staffing matters, special projects etc.
•    Review and sign off on monthly income statement and balance sheet (including posted journal entries, depreciation schedules etc.)
•    Analyse monthly and quarterly financial and management results vs budget and forecast and provide business insights on business drivers, trends, issues, KPIs (including profitability by practice group and by lawyer).  Liaise with National Finance Team accordingly
•    Work closely with the OMP and National Financial, Planning & Analysis team to analyze KPI’s and develop financial reporting that meets the needs of the business
•    Support local business planning and budgeting process:  work closely with local business leaders and National Finance team to develop revenue, expense and FTE budgets and forecasts (including understanding all inputs and assumptions)
•    Provide supervision and leadership to the Calgary accounting team:
o    Provide oversight to new and existing staff as needed
o    Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
o    Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
•    Collaborate with National Finance and the Finance Leaders in other offices to harmonize the associated finance processes between offices, focusing on best practices and systems
•    Identify and deliver on profitability, cost savings and operational improvement initiatives
•    Support the management and improvement of the time entry, billings and collection cycle
•    Responsible for local office operations functions:
o    Responsible for office services functions and teams supporting these (mail, courier, copy, offsite storage, hospitality, health & safety, ergonomics)
o    Responsible for facilities management: operations and teams supporting these (i.e. premises maintenance, repairs, furniture, office setups and moves, space planning etc.)
o    Active involvement in the upcoming office renovation project
o    The Manager of Legal Assistants reports to both the OMP and Director of Finance and Operations

REQUIREMENTS

•    7+ years experience in senior finance positions
•    Previous experience working in a legal or professional services environment is considered an asset
•    Business related university degree and professional accounting designation
•    Strong financial analysis including the ability to interpret what is behind the numbers and what the impact is for the business
•    Experience managing diverse teams and stakeholders
•    Strong ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
•    Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to present concepts at all levels in an organization, particularly at the senior management level
•    Strong technical proficiency in all aspects of MS Windows – Excel, PowerPoint, Word
•    Thorough knowledge of financial and administrative operations and management
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
•    Strong ability to anticipate management information requirements
•    Ability to identify opportunities for improvement in a timely and effective manner
•    Excellent organizational abilities
