Job Description

The purpose of this role is to lead ALM Production with the objective of achieving valuable and efficient production and delivery of regular ALM work products to its stakeholders while measuring, monitoring and managing ALM risks for Canada and certain blocks of Capital & Risk Solutions business.

This role interacts with many areas inside and outside of Investments and holds a significant role on many committees.

Accountabilities:

General

  • Create an annual plan for projects that will respond to the continuously changing business requirements. This work will require engaging with ALM’s customers.

Valuation-Related Activities

  • Maintain, enhance and execute CFVM processes, critical to the determination of insurance contract liabilities for Canada and certain blocks of Capital & Risk Solutions segments. Provide explanations for the movement in Interest Risk Provision (IRP) and other key measures.
  • Quarterly quantification of market sensitivities, LICAT interest rate risk and Fair Value Adjustments (FVA),
  • Execute experience studies such as those related to reinvestment rates, investment expenses and equity returns

Operational Activities

  • Maintain and enhance processes for allocating assets by segment in compliance with approved policies, procedures and guidelines. Get approvals and document them as required.
  • Monitor key risk metrics and develop action plans to manage within risk limits for all business segments
  • Support liability pricing by developing and providing interest rates and other asset statistics

Reporting and System Activities

  • Determine and report agreed risk measures opposite guideline limits: interest rate risk, liquidity risk, currency risk and asset mix diversification risk. Escalate breaches as required and develop recommended remediation actions when appropriate.
  • Enhance and run models to create the annual asset and earnings budget, to forecast Par yields and to determine asset outcomes for the Financial Conditions Testing (FCT)
  • Reporting to enable senior management review of asset and earnings results for the Investment Division and the Par asset portfolio
  • Overall responsibility for the management of the systems that house data required for ALM purposes. Appoint resources to Investment Division system projects so ALM needs are achieved.

Leadership

  • The leader will identify team and individual performance metrics while focusing on employee empowerment, development and high performance
  • A high level of innovation is required for this role. Diligence to identify ways to improve the existing processes but also the find solutions to unique business situations that arise regularly.
  • A key lead on various ALM committees with the objective of these committees being the review of the execution of the ALM mandate for different blocks of business

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries in good standing is required, CFA an asset
  • 10+ years’ experience in a financial/insurance industry role
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Continuous improvement and innovation mindset
  • Strong ability to partner with influence and authority across diverse audiences
  • Strength in managing competing and demanding stakeholder expectations
  • Excellent planner and process manager with commitment to: on-time delivery of high quality work product, continuous improvement, importance of appropriate effective controls and contingency planning

Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Administration, you will be responsible for accurate and timely processing of financial and non-financial transactions for our clients’ mutual fund accounts in support of our distribution partners.

Accountabilities:

Processing complex transactions to mutual fund accounts
Reviewing transactions entered by advisors
Communicating with advisors’ requirements to turn “not in good order” trades into “in good order” trades
Understanding the mutual fund industry, regulatory guidelines, Quadrus and fund company business processes
Tracking and reporting activity
Meeting service standards to minimize financial impact

Qualifications and Competencies:

Excellent written communication skills in both French and English
Completion of the IFIC Operations and/ or Investment Funds Course is an asset
Previous experience in a role communicating with Advisors is required
Working knowledge of the mutual fund industry, regulatory guidelines and Quadrus & fund company business processes is required
