Job Description

General Accountabilities

  • Contribute to a wide range of financial management activities by providing sound financial and forecasting analysis/advice
  • Develop and prepare monthly reporting packages on a consolidated and non-consolidated basis for review by Kinectrics Management (and parent company if required).
  •  Manage the monthly financial forecasting process across the Business Units on a consolidated and non-consolidated basis. Prepare monthly forecast reports for Kinectrics Management.
  • Prepare, co-ordinate and manage budgeting and business planning processes.
  • Apply continuous improvement efforts in design, development, and operation of all financial systems (including SAP BW, Excel, etc.) computerized models and ensure compliance with the business structure. Provide training on the financial reporting systems as needed.
  • Provide support for the Chief Financial Officer, Tax Manager, senior management, business analysts, internal groups, external organizations as required.  Provide background information and rationale to support recommendations, including ad-hoc reports as required.
  • Responsible for various other reports such as banking covenants, quarterly banking package and Statistics Canada reporting.
  • Assist with VENA reporting system during implementation as requested and report under this system once installed
  • Responsible for all consolidation entries
  • Coordinate annual audit requirements.  Prepare audit statements and manage audit requirements.
  • Assist CFO and CEO with special projects (e.g. acquisitions, divestitures, etc.)

Selection Criteria

Essential Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Microsoft Excel:  Advanced experience, versions 2003 and 2007.  Should be using these applications in current position on a regular basis.
  • SAP experience – FI, CO modules.  Experience with SAP version 3.1 or SAP ECC 6.0 preferred within the last 3 years.
  • Ability to apply advanced Excel skills and the ability to reconcile unbalanced sheets.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to self-check work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team situation and assist staff to develop their own level of expertise in this area.
  • Methodical in working spreadsheets with the ability to draw out the underlying trends and explain variances.
  • Self-starter who can manage work under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative to propose and implement new business ideas in area of expertise.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications: 

  • A four-year university education or equivalent in business, finance, accounting, plus further concentrated studies in related areas.
  • Enrolled in a professional Canadian accounting designation such as CA, CMA, and/or CGA is required
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP/IFRS
  • A period of at least 5 – 7 years relevant work experience.
  • International consolidation knowledge preferred
  • Current Canadian income tax knowledge

Job Description

The Kinectrics Graduate Trainee Development Program provides graduates with the knowledge, tools and experience necessary for success. Created for newly graduated students, the program allows graduate trainees (GT’s) to work alongside experts in the field, acquire technical experience in a professional atmosphere, and develop the skills essential for career growth in the company.

The program is designed to run for 24 months with four rotations approx. six months in length with some flexibility based on individual needs and the departments ongoing projects. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees will be placed in a position in a Kinectrics department. Placement will be made based on consideration of recommendations by the trainee’s supervisors and the Program Coordinator, the trainee’s strengths and preferences, and Kinectrics business needs.

General Accountabilities

  • Provide technical and analytical support for multiple projects of varying complexity to ensure work is completed on schedule and on budget to required quality standards.
  • Act as a resource in contributing to the preparation of proposals and supporting technical project management related to overhead power lines. Coordinate between multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work independently and as a part of engineering and technical teams to contribute to technical procedure writing (including log sheets, QA program and job safety analysis), data analysis, report preparations and engineering modeling/design.
  • Liaise with staff, contractors, consultants and vendor resources as appropriate.
  • Provide support to Project Leaders to interact with clients, write progress reports and complete quality files.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 4-year university education in engineering (M.Sc. or equivalent in Engineering is highly preferred).
  • A period of up to 1-year prior experience in a related field.
  • Experience writing technical reports, memos, plans, procedures and specifications.
  • Some understanding of overhead power lines, specific conductor types, overhead hardware and any specifications related to them.
  • Requires basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory; especially engineering fundamental knowledge that can be related to power delivery systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge in modes of heat transfer and/or high temperature testing is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 considered an asset.
  • Willingness to work at customer sites in North America and worldwide for extended period of time.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and work on multiple projects in parallel with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, clearing bottlenecks and within project constraints (time, cost, quality). Flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work in a wide array of technical topics related to transmission and distribution engineering.
  • Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, such as Microsoft Excel, and drafting programs (Solid Works, AutoCad, Visio etc.)
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems is preferred.
  • Motor vehicle skill: holding a valid driver’s license that allows for operating motor vehicles independently.
