KPMG’s Global Infrastructure Advisory practice is focused on being the trusted advisors of choice on major infrastructure programs within federal, provincial and municipal governments, and transport, accommodation, power and utilities, digital, energy and mining, and oil and gas industries. We are a team of 40 professionals within Toronto and a national team of over 90 professionals, including economists, engineers, project management professionals, finance professionals, accountants, and consultants.

Recent projects include:
Providing financial and procurement advice to the City of Calgary for its $4.65 billion Green Line light rail transit project that will delivered under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Advised the City of Toronto on its long-term waste strategy, including developing a financial model to allocate the City’s operating expenditures to support the City in transitioning towards a fully sustainable utility model.
Advised the City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) on their $9.4 capital budget by reviewing 13 projects in their portfolio. KPMG provided 41 recommendations to the TTC to improve Project Management Practices including: budgeting, cost estimating, strategic planning, governance etc.
Advised the City of Toronto on potential revenue tools, such as road pricing, alcohol taxes, and development fees to fund infrastructure and general investment.
Provided commercial due diligence, as part of a broader KPMG team, to support a global alternative asset management company in their $5.7 billion acquisition of Westinghouse Electric Company’s global nuclear business.
Provided an independent review on a major dispute for Barrick Gold’s $11 billion mining infrastructure project.

KPMG’s growing and market-leading Global Infrastructure Advisory practice is looking for an individual who is interested in infrastructure strategy, finance, procurement, policy development, and delivery, to join our practice in Toronto. Please note that the Consultant role is an entry-level position, with opportunities to grow your career at a leading global professional services firm. This role will allow you to gain experience on different types of projects, within our Global Infrastructure practice, and supporting the firm’s other service lines when opportunities arise.
What you will do
As a Consultant in KPMG’s Infrastructure Advisory practice, you will advise government agencies, and occasionally private sector companies, on a wide variety of infrastructure projects. This variation in the role means there is no set pattern for the type of work you will be doing on a day-to-day basis. Examples of responsibilities include:
Support the development of procurement, policy, and financial advice to governments;
Conduct data analysis and financial analysis using Microsoft Excel and other relevant analytics tools;
Assist asset owners in planning and managing the construction of major infrastructure projects;
Support investors or asset owners in the acquisition or divesture of infrastructure assets;
Development of project governance and project management frameworks;
Conduct market research in support of industry growth areas such as transit, renewable energy and clean technologies;
Report writing;
Development of client and business development presentations; and,
Assist in the development of proposals and presentations to win new mandates.
At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need extra time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.
What you bring to the role
You are highly motivated and enthusiastic to take on a variety of challenges and opportunities. You have a strong academic record and are passionate about being involved in your local community and university. You have a strong sense of personal accountability, and are focused on achieving your personal and career goals.
Undergraduate degree in business or economics, with a focus in finance, accounting, economics, or a similar field;
Up to 3 years of financial analysis experience;
Passion to learn about public infrastructure, in particular infrastructure planning, procurement, financing, policy development and delivery;
Exceptional financial analysis, problem solving and critical thinking abilities;
Strong data analytics and computer/digital skillset;
Financial modeling experience using Microsoft Excel is considered an asset;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Proven capability of working within a multi-disciplinary, geographically distributed team;
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast paced and demanding environment; and
Ability to travel within Canada and abroad, as necessary.
