Job Description

Compensation: Hourly, 37.5 hours per week.

Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College (SWC) is a private institution that provides higher education in the Catholic tradition of the Liberal Arts and offers a three-year Bachelor of Catholic Studies degree. Two defining characteristics of SWC are its Catholic orthodoxy and its commitment to providing an excellent, comprehensive liberal arts formation, with courses in Theology, Philosophy, Literature, History, Social Sciences, Languages, Fine Arts, Music, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences.

Salary is commensurate with experience, within the context of SWC’s nature as a non-profit corporation. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

The Opportunity:

This full-time high-level managerial position presents an exciting opportunity to support a small but growing Catholic liberal arts college by leading, guiding, and mentoring the directors of the non-academic departments and ensuring the smooth operation of the institution. The VP Administration will coordinate and integrate the functions of the various departments, ensuring that they fulfil as closely as possible the vision of the President and the Board of Directors, as well as, ultimately, the mission of the college.

Duties

  • Supervise directors of facilities, student life, finance, strategic enrolment, development, IT, and administration, and coordinate their functions
  • Work with the President and the finance department to develop the budget
  • Approve medium-level expenditures
  • Ensure that departments stay within budget
  • Support the President in working with the development office on fundraising initiatives
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of training and general onboarding of new staff
  • Recruit for positions within the operational side of the College
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of policies surrounding wellness and personal support for staff
  • Take responsibility for contracts and other human resources matters for staff

Required Characteristics

  • Proven administrator with measurable record of success
  • Knowledge and experience in management
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • An earned Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s an asset
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in senior administration; work experience in a university or college setting an asset

Job Description

The successful candidate would preferably have an earned doctorate or equivalent, have a deep understanding of, and a strong commitment to, the liberal arts, and also ideally:

  • have a minimum of ten years of experience in university administration, as well as institutional development, higher education management, and fundraising;
  • have a measurable record of successful and ethical academic leadership in governance, long-term planning, and fiscal responsibility;
  • have experience in articulating the value of growing Catholic liberal arts institutions in the context of Canadian higher education.

Personal Skills

The candidate must have:

  • the ability and conviction to promote Catholic liberal arts education as part of the “New Evangelization”;
  • strong communication and public relations skills;
  • the ability to relate easily to the internal groups constituting SWC, as well as other post secondary institutions, various levels of Canadian government, clergy (including bishops), and the local community;
  • the ability to lead by example in a growing Catholic institution, to initiate new developments in a collegial manner, and to be the public representative of SWC.
