Opportunity

The Department of Access and Disability Resources in Student Affairs invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment, Professional Resource Faculty Learning Specialist, commencing July 1st, 2022, subject to final budgetary approval.
In this position, you will be responsible for facilitating access to all aspects of the MacEwan University experience for individuals with disabilities. Drawing on professional expertise and judgment, including understanding of relevant legislation and policy, the Learning Specialist identifies reasonable accommodations.
You will coordinate access to services and technologies for students with disabilities who experience barriers to full and equitable participation in their program, courses, and other post-secondary activities.
The Learning Specialist collaborates with members of the university community by sharing information about barriers to full participation (including the duty to accommodate) and universal design principles, encouraging the design and implementation of an accessible learning environment and participates in initiatives to accomplish this goal.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to serve on department and University committees, participate in projects and initiatives that advance the department’s strategic goals and engage in professional development activities.

Preferred candidates will have the following qualities:

  • Graduate degree in Education, School Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation, or related field including training and experience in psychological assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working with adult learners with disabilities including a working knowledge of relevant legislation, practice models, and assistive technologies.
  • Experience in post-secondary education.
  • Knowledge and experience providing meta-cognitive strategy instruction.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective teamwork including collaboration, problem- solving and flexibility.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
