Job Description

The Opportunity
McElhanney Ltd. is seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist to join our Municipal Engineering team in Surrey or Vancouver, BC. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their design/construction engineering experience by working on water and wastewater treatment systems, pump stations, PRVs, culverts, linear utilities, and road projects. The ideal candidate would be an expert with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, and other technical software.

This position is available in our Surrey or Vancouver office.

What You’ll be Doing
Assist in the production of engineering designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and tender documents for municipal engineering projects as listed above.
Take projects from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project documentation requirements, using primarily Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
Coordinate the preparation of documents required for regulatory approvals, prepare construction cost estimates and tender documents/contracts.
Coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
Liaise with contractor, clients/owners and affected stakeholders.
Prepare process mechanical designs using AutoCAD and Revit as required

What You’ll Bring
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology plus one year of experience with municipal design
Proficiency in Civil 3D Software
Proficiency in Revit is an asset
Registration as an A.Sc.T. or other technical accreditation is an asset
Excellent communication, client management, and relationship-building skills
Ability to work without supervision as well as within a busy and close-knit team environment
Experience in the training/supervising of junior technical staff is an asset

Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Assist engineering teams with accounts payable and receivable including invoicing, recording/reconciling bank deposits, and organization of collections for outstanding accounts
  • Assist with compiling project control data
  • Input and monitor employee timesheets and liaise with payroll accordingly
  • Coordinate flow of communication throughout the branch
  • Compose letters, memoranda, and email correspondence
  • Organize meetings and make staff travel arrangements
  • Assist inventory of office supplies, filing, archiving, and disposal of branch documents

What You’ll Bring:

  • 0 – 2 years’ prior office experience in reception and administrative support roles; formal training in an administration program is considered an asset.
  • Enrolled in a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree program that offers a curriculum supporting administrative careers (i.e., knowledge of business, accounting, bookkeeping, etc.)
  • Ability to work from our Vancouver office 3-4 days per week.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail with good multi-tasking and proofreading abilities, punctuality, and the ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Personable and professional demeanor with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
