Job Description

At Penguin Random House Canada, we strive to provide best-in-class service to each of our unique retailer partners. Reporting to the Director, National Accounts, you will play a key role in delivering this experience by providing your account with unparalleled sales support.

What you’ll do:

  • Curate and sell lists of upcoming books to national retailers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization and key external contacts to understand, communicate, and achieve sales goals.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to national retailers, ensuring they receive all required information, sales materials, and marketing assets at the right time.
  • Monitor account inventory levels, create forecasts and make order recommendations to maintain appropriate supply levels.
  • Act as a liaison between internal Marketing and Publicity departments and national retailers to communicate plans and requirements.
  • Provide feedback on manuscripts, covers, and positioning with an eye to trends in the Canadian book market.
  • Participate in trends analysis and customer segmentation to provide internal and external stakeholders with insights into customer behavior.
  • Initiate and monitor results for both in store and online promotions with an eye to differentiating between the physical and online Canadian market and customer.

Experience and knowledge you’ll bring (qualifications):

  • A minimum of two years of experience in sales or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using collaborative digital tools such as Slack, Asana, Google Docs, etc.
  • Experience using sales reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach to relationship management.
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively or independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities on tight deadlines.
  • An insatiable curiosity and appetite for self-directed learning, experimentation, and creativity.
  • A proactive and efficient approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian book market is a plus.

Job Description

We are looking for someone to join our conversation. Someone who has the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities at the same time, while keeping themselves and others on track. The ability to understand and anticipate the needs of our team to support them is of paramount importance. Exceptional copyediting and proofreading skills are required for this role, as are stellar information management skills, and a flair for copywriting.

What you’ll do:

  • Meet the overall organizational and administrative needs of the imprint, including scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes as needed, coordinating couriers, processing invoices, making cheque requests, ordering office supplies, assisting with award submissions, and coordinating distribution of author and agent copies.
  • Read and evaluate manuscripts and proposals on submission, and draft letters and reading reports as needed.
  • Assist the editorial team with manuscript development, including preparing manuscripts for production, proofreading pages, drafting briefs, copyediting and proofreading jacket copy.
  • Coordinate the printing of galleys with the Sales and Marketing departments, and work with Production to prepare and proof the jacket and text pages.
  • Work with the Publisher and editors to create materials for sales and marketing by writing and copyediting TI copy, creating PPT presentations, proofreading materials, uploading content to the intranet site and maintaining databases.
  • Assist with the acquisition process by drafting acquisitions materials, compiling and inputting contract paperwork as needed.
  • Train and help to coordinate the daily tasks of the editorial interns.
  • Assist in the general operational life of the imprint by circulating important deadlines and administrative updates.

Experience and knowledge you’ll bring (qualifications):

  • Tremendous curiosity and love of reading, and a dedicated interest in the ideas and voices that shape our world.
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Strong administrative and relationship management skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively or independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
