Job Description

Summary

Reporting to the Manager/Coordinator or designate, the Reception/Switchboard Clerk performs a variety of clerical and reception functions. Duties and responsibilities include greeting and re-directing patients and visitors to the Centre, performing switchboard duties, performing data entry of patient demographic information and receiving and re-directing patient information and other relevant information to a variety of areas.

Education

Duties

Performs a variety of reception duties including receiving patients and visitors, answering inquiries and giving directions, assisting patients and other visitors including directing and/or escorting patient to other areas within the Centre.

Obtains information required to assign Agency ID from Requesting Departments, enters into information systems information such as name, address, date of birth and contact information and notifies requestor by phone or fax when Agency ID has been assigned.

Performs a variety of switchboard functions such as answering incoming calls on a multi-line telephone, obtaining/providing information, forwarding calls or taking messages, and operating a public address system and other pages devices such as personal pagers to locate doctors and other staff.

Receives and re-directs mail/courier and other deliveries to areas within the Centre.

Follows established communication procedures in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, fire, bomb threats and disasters.

Participates in continuous quality improvement activities by performing duties such as providing input/feedback to supervisor on processes and opportunities for process improvement.

Demonstrates own work procedures to co-workers.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
