Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Manager of Corporate Relations, the Industry Liaison Associate facilitates and coordinates new and expanded targeted industry and employment opportunities to support career-related activities for students within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS). The incumbent identifies prospective new connections and supports existing industry partners by developing networking mechanisms and liaises events for students. These may include industry panels, site tours, informal meetings, workshops, networking events, and mentorship opportunities. The incumbent will coordinate with internal departments, Career Services, and other Faculty collaborators, to support employer events, create job postings, and manage the recruitment process. As a link between interested faculty members and industry contacts, this role will assist in identifying and promoting in-class opportunities. The Industry Liaison Associate will support the mandate of the Corporate Relations team while providing superior service to corporate partners, student groups, staff, faculty, and Queen’s departments.

This position requires flexible hours of work including evenings and weekends, with some travel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain and Develop industry knowledge and relationships
· Serves as a first point of contact for the FEAS Corporate Relations team, answering questions and providing guidance to students, faculty, staff, and industry partners. Understands and interprets established guidelines, procedures, and processes to accurately direct or advise.
· Conducts engineering market research and develops reports on the engineering labor market and trends.
· Builds effective relationships with key engineering partners and program stakeholders
· Creates and implements opportunities to attract industry partners and undergraduate/graduate students’ participation in career development and internship programs.
· Assists in expanding current career development and internship programs by leveraging alumni as potential employers, working closely with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science Advancement Team to design and host targeted events.
· Identifies opportunities in the current industry and employer portfolios and works with the Manager of Corporate Relations to develop and enhance business relationships.
· Acts as a liaison between the Faculty Office, departments and Career Services, engaging department stakeholders, facilitating on-going communication, seeking input, and providing
up to date information on career activities. Learns about department interests and maintains awareness of new or developing opportunities.

Industry Partner Support and Events
· Designs, plans, and coordinates industry events such as panel discussions, informal meetings, site tours, workshops, networking events and in class opportunities, including layout, setup and cleanup, and determining and booking catering. Evaluates events against objectives and makes recommendations for continuous improvement to event delivery.
· Identifies opportunities for improving student and employer experience at events, and increasing engagement of industry partners and student participation
· Monitors employer activity in MyCareer and updates employer services information in the MyCareer Event Calendar.
· Works with existing industry partners to build their campus programs recruiting strategy.
· Collaborates with the Manager of Corporate Relations and industry stakeholders to, develop and manage all timelines and content for job postings, info sessions, and interviews. Ensures a superior and seamless recruiting experience on-campus for participating employers.

Reporting and Supervision
· Creates annual work plans and goals in consultation with Manager of Corporate Relations. Ensures plans are approved in advance and maintains records, compiling statistics and preparing content for reports as required.
· Works closely with Manager of Corporate Relations to transfer all industry specific knowledge to the Corporate Relations Team and other key stakeholders to continually expand our ability to prepare students for the career of their choice.
· Produces monthly tracking reports on industry development measuring new partners, new activity, job postings, partner feedback, and event engagement.
· Maintains impeccable files on contacts in the industry including partner, prospective partners and in industry associations.
· Obtains and records feedback from employers, students, and industry partners to inform recommendations for improvements to the events and processes.
· Provides work direction, and technical/functional guidance to Work Study Students. Schedules and assigns work, and oversees its completion. Coordinates and monitors work flow.
· Schedules and approves, or recommends the approval of, students’ hours of work, overtime and absences. Monitors and oversees students’ attendance.
· Participates in screening and interviewing job candidates and provides input into selection of Work Study students.
· Reviews assignments and provides feedback on work to Work Study students. Provides input on work performance to management staff.
· Provides orientation and on-the-job training to Work Study students. Provides coaching and feedback on work quality issues, providing related day-to-day supervision. Escalates unresolved performance and/or disciplinary matters to management.
· Undertakes other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· University degree in relevant field combined with a minimum of 2 year’s work experience in industry coordination and support, or similar role, is an asset.
· Undergraduate degree in Engineering, business or STEM and / or experience in a related area considered to be an asset.
· Knowledge of Engineering industry and curriculum.
· Practical industry or recruitment experience considered to be an asset.
· Previous experience with event coordination considered to be an asset.
· A familiarity with the university and its operating procedures considered an asset.
· Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology and software.
· Experience using MyCareer platform, Salesforce or other similar database considered to be an asset.

· Assesses employer programs and determines best match for FEAS students’ strengths and interests.
· Determines methods for sourcing and engaging with new industry partners.
· Evaluates and makes recommendations about how to obtain industry specific knowledge and the best method for transferring information to the Corporate Relations team and students.
· Evaluates and decides on most effective logistical needs for events, including online registration, room bookings, and catering.
· Determines content of communications with existing and / or potential employers and students, presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
· Assesses the suitability of work study job candidates and recommends the most appropriate person for hire.
· Determines priorities and makes decisions about work study student staff utilization and the assignment of work to achieve optimum efficiencies and productivity.
· Monitors and assesses output and the quality of work study students’ work, and recommends need for formal training or development plans to management and identifies possible staff performance and/or disciplinary issues.

Job Description

The Department of Geography and Planning, Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University
invites applications for a tenure-track position in urban and regional planning at the rank of
Assistant Professor. We are seeking applicants with expertise in Social Planning and an active
research program in one or more of the following areas: equity planning, participatory
planning, planning with Indigenous Peoples and/or marginalized populations, age-friendly
community planning, community development, and affordable housing. Membership in the
Ontario Professional Planner’s Institute (OPPI) and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
will be considered a strong asset. This position will have a preferred starting date of July 1,
2021.
The Department of Geography and Planning (GPPL) at Queen’s University has 28 faculty
members working in diverse areas of human and physical geography and planning, and offers a
range of undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates. The School of Urban and
Regional Planning (SURP), housed within GPPL, offers an accredited professional Master’s
degree in Urban and Regional Planning (MPL). The School of Urban and Regional Planning is a
national leader in the study and practice of urban and regional planning, with strong regional
and international partnerships.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily in the MPL program. The successful
candidate will bring expertise on the continuing role of urban and regional planning in Canadian
urban centres, and the ways in which Canada’s changing society is affecting planning issues. The
ideal candidate’s teaching and research would reflect on issues of indigeneity, class, race, and
gender, as well as issues around policy and governance, on planning concerns.
Candidates must have a PhD in Planning or a related discipline completed at the start date of
the appointment. The main criteria for selection are academic and teaching excellence, as well
as experience working in the planning profession. The successful candidate will provide
evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates potential for independent research
leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding, as well as
strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in
support of the department’s programs. An established record of publications and presentations
for academic and professional audiences, and diverse teaching experience are considered
strong assets. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an
interdisciplinary and student-centred environment. The successful candidate will be expected

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow professional standards in the handling and reporting of highly confidential and sensitive information.

• Develop, test, implement and maintain data-driven reports and data products using Tableau.

• Build and maintain contacts with research and analysis clients and colleagues, including university administration, committees, other universities and government agencies.

• Use and leverage central administrative computing systems to validate central data and identify data improvement opportunities, and participate in the implementation of prominent system improvements.

• Prepare data submissions, proposals, reports and presentations to communicate research findings within and outside the university community.

• Promote a culture that supports diversity, equity, inclusion and Indigeneity in the workplace and acknowledge diverse ideas and the interests of all stakeholders in decision making.

• Undertake other duties in support of the unit as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• An undergraduate degree in a discipline or professional program involving statistics, research methodology and statistical computing.

• A minimum of three years of experience (or a combination of education and experience) with exposure to and familiarity with applied research, statistical/analytical software, mainframe administrative systems, database systems, and research design/project management.

• Experience with various analytical tools in support of information analysis and reporting, such as SAS, R, PeopleSoft Query, Excel, Tableau and other appropriate software and improvements as technologies evolve.

• Familiarity with SQL or query writing with PeopleSoft or another enterprise system.

• Familiarity with strategies for improving processes – eliminating or consolidating process steps, reducing elapsed time and eliminating waste.

• An ability to quickly acquire knowledge of complex administrative structures and processes.

• Experience working with diverse groups, projects, and applications to identify and bring together multiple information sources in a clear, consistent, valid and understandable format.

• Project coordination experience considered an asset.

• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
