We are looking for Building Managers to support our Real Property Planning and Management Branch in Ottawa, ON. The Building Manager would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) is responsible for operations and maintenance of approximately 65 facilities in the National Capital Region supporting research and development activities in a campus environment.
The successful candidates will assigned a portfolio of buildings with the responsibility to monitor building activities ensuring the safety and security of building occupants, coordinating, planning and monitoring maintenance and repair activities for smooth daily building operations. The Building Managers also plays a key role in planning, monitoring and reporting financial expenditures. Additionally and is also responsible for supervision of one assigned direct report.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Completion of a three-year community college diploma in Civil, Structural, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience might be accepted.
The following certifications or training will be considered as an asset:
- Certified Facility Manager – International Facility Management Association (IFMA).
- Certified Property Manager – Institute of Real Estate Management.
- Facility Management Administrator Designation – Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI).

Experience
- Significant experience in coordinating numerous building maintenance contracts, including managing the implementation of small and medium projects in a research and/or industrial environment.
- Significant experience monitoring building structures, mechanical and electrical systems evaluating operations closely to maximize efficiencies as well to determine need for repairs, renovations or replacement.
- Significant experience working in a complex environment serving a number of internal clients simultaneously and managing multiple concurrent tasks and priorities.
- Significant experience reviewing, providing input in developing, monitoring and managing operational budgets for maintenance and repairs of facilities, equipment and buildings including proposed improvements.
- Significant experience with supervising direct reporting employees including coaching, training and conducting performance reviews.
- Significant experience with computerized maintenance and management systems related to facilities and installed equipment preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Basic experience in planning accommodation requests; assists in space usage planning; advises on the application of related policies, regulations,
- Basic experience of Building Automation System (BAS).

- Reviewing energy usage and implementation of conservation measures.
