Job Description

Provides solutions using computer applications and systems based on business requirements. Designs and directs the development, installation, enhancement and support of complex computer systems. Directs programming staff. Administers IT resources allocated to projects.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

  1. Performs system analysis and consulting for complex computer systems.
  2. Prepares requirements, designs, development specifications, project schedules, estimates, test plans, performance requirements and documentation for computer applications and systems.
  3. Directs programming staff in program analysis, program design, coding, testing, implementation, documentation and support of software applications.
  4. Monitors schedules, deliverables and resources for projects and adjusts as required to ensure objectives are met. Develops business cases and manages internal projects and/or assists clients in developing business cases and managing their projects through the appropriate systems development life cycle.
  5. Directs the day to day support and enhancements of computer systems and assists clients in the effective use of their systems formal or informal training and consulting.
  6. Plays a major role in the training and development of programming staff.
  7. Maintains current knowledge of technical advancements as they pertain to application development and support. Researches new methodologies, standards, guidelines and tools and recommends changes.
  8. Develops and maintains the corporate business and data models ensuring accurate data and business rules are defined and applied.
  9. Provides systems analysis and consulting services related to improving our clients business processes and/or adapting them to changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. The candidate must satisfy one of the following experience levels in combination with the specified educational background. The experience level as specified must be current and contiguous experience in developing and /or supporting applications software in a professional IT development environment:
    a) Recognized University Degree majoring in Computer Science with a minimum of three years experience. OR
    b) Recognized Technical Institute Diploma in Information Systems or a recognized University Degree in Administration, Commerce or Science/Engineering or Information Systems Professional (ISP) designation with a minimum of four years experience. OR
    c) Five years experience.
  2. Working knowledge of the posted discipline (i.e. Project Manager, Solution Architect or Data Architect), typically gained through two years current experience in a senior role or one year experience as a SaskTel Systems Analyst in the posted discipline and demonstrated proficiency in the technical environment if specified.
  3. Excellent problem analysis/solving appropriate to the posted discipline
  4. Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with others.
  5. Ability to lead, direct and coach others.
  6. Demonstrated initiative and leadership.

The Product Support Consultant is a member of a highly skilled multi-functional product support and services team dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service to international customers. This role provides 24x7x365 support and consulting services for all SI products to communication services providers across the world. This position provides professional services through a multi-tier support and services organization that provides services ranging from incident and problem resolution to multi-year customer implementation projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for providing 24x7x365 customer support for all SI products and services.
2. Utilizes ITIL framework to provide multi-tier incident and problem management support services.
3. Completes all aspects of customer product implementations including feasibility, analysis, planning, implementation and support.
4. Works in a true consulting capacity providing consulting and advisory services to clients as a Subject Matter Expert on SI products and services ranging from small one-week engagements to multi-year complex projects.
5. Maintains a high level of accountability for the decisions and results achieved through the role of a Subject Matter Expert providing advisory and consulting services to clients.
6. Works in a leadership capacity on customer sites leading client staff based on contracted services.
7. Develops plans for short-term client engagements while also managing budgets and ensuring profitability.
8. Represents SI as a solutions provider through their actions and interactions performing and delivering services both on-site and off-site to clients.
9. Has a high level of autonomy and decision making responsibilities while working on-site for client engagements.
10. Identifies problems and trends through root cause analysis.
11. Works in conjunction with other vendors to identify and resolve complex technical problems for customers.
12. Ensure all agreed levels of service quality and service availability are maintained.
13. Support the Sales team to keep them informed of technical issues with customers.
14. Manage knowledge, process and documentation of products and proprietary information to improve customer service.
15. Identifies and implements opportunities to streamline and improve operations and eliminate non-value activities and processes within the department.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Computer Science or Engineering degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
2. 8+ years of Java and SQL development and support experience.
3. Extensive experience in the application of information technology principles, methodologies and techniques.
4. Demonstrated analytical, business and technical expertise in supporting IT products and services.
5. Ability to succeed in high-pressure situations with short timelines.
6. Ability to work in an advisory and consultative capacity and take on leadership responsibilities during client engagements.
7. Must display broad conceptual skills and ability to integrate numerous activities while working across multiple departments and/or functional areas.
8. Excellent interpersonal skills, along with a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal teams, customers and partners.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage change within a diverse and rapidly changing environment.
10. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply project management skills.
11. Ability to work flexible hours in a 24x7x365 environment including evenings and weekends.
12. Must be willing to travel out of province for client requirements as required.
13. Previous experience working within an IT professional services or consulting organization is highly desirable.

As a SaskTel Customer Services Technician you will be responsible for performing various functions related to telecom products and services for residential and business customers. This includes the installation, maintenance, repair and removal of residential and small business customer equipment and outside plant facilities, on site premises troubleshooting and extensive interaction with SaskTel customers.
