Investment Specialist Associate
As a Scotiabank Investment Specialist Associate, you will be able to learn the intricacies of financial planning by working alongside seasoned Investment Specialists. You will have an opportunity to master the skills required to build long-lasting client relationships – with the goal to progress into an Investment Specialist within one year.
In this role, you will learn, practice and apply the skills and knowledge required to confidently transition to an Investment Specialist position. This includes a focus on developing new wealth management business relationships, cross selling and up-selling to existing clients to ensure investment portfolio growth, revenue generation and meeting defined goals.
Key Accountabilities
Learn and master the skills to promote the development and sustainable growth of proprietary investment business by:
- Developing and implementing a structured business development strategy
- Developing strategic sales plans for prospects and existing clients
- Conducting outbound communications and cold-calling to prospects to remain top-of-mind for future business opportunities
- Providing clients with an initial review of their existing financial plan or creating a new financial plan
- Conducting complimentary needs analysis across several financial statements, including competitor statements
- Conducting market research to understand market trends
- Building and maintaining a market profile in the assigned market area
- Participating in local professional and community events and associations to develop your network
- Identifying opportunities to deliver community information sessions and financial seminars to grow prospects
- Networking with investment industry specialists while managing a small budget for independent marketing-based activities
- Identifying additional investment business development opportunities and facilitating the implementation of an investment solution and/or referral to the appropriate Wealth Management partners
- Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication by actively participating and contributing to one-on-one touch bases and meetings with team members
Desired Skills & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Business or related field
- Mutual Fund License
- Financial Planning Designation (PFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) in process
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as a self-motivated entrepreneur
- An understanding of the Brokerage / Wealth Management and Online Brokerage environments
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle, in order to travel to meet clients and prospects within the designated districtSecond language an asset depending on target markets

Job Description
As a Trust Associate in a Scotia Wealth Management Office, you provide proactive administrative and client service support to a Trust Officer and their account portfolio of varying size and complexity with the day to management, oversight and account administration for client, beneficiary and Co-Trustee relationships. While discussions with Co-Trustees, beneficiaries, clients, their advisors and the business community will generally be the responsibility of the Trust Officer, the Trust Associate will frequently deal with external contacts, gather and relay information and is designated as the point of contact in the absence of the Trust Officer.
Key Accountabilities:
- Administration and Relationship Management Support
- Assist the Trust Officer with providing a best in class, proactive and personalized client experience to high net worth clients and beneficiaries, exemplified by timely and accurate account administration coupled with demonstrated technical expertise, personal integrity and an ability to respond to stated and unstated client needs and concerns.
- Provide effective back-up in the absence of the Trust Officer by demonstrating a detailed knowledge of the accounts and responding to the client and beneficiary needs in a timely manner, referring matters to other resources where appropriate.
- Maintain daily surveillance over cash positions and provide reports for any cash positions that require remedial attention. Create/input accurate and timely accounting entries for payments to third parties realization of assets, fee collection, referring all unusual items for further action as required. Prepare detailed fee calculations in Estate and Trust accounts in accordance with fee agreements or local judicial/industry practice
- Assemble information regarding assets in new accounts (including research into the tax costs) and ensure the preparation of the opening inventory/Record of Trust. Set up client and asset information on the Trust including the creation and maintenance of diaries to provide for such matters as fixed remittances fee processing, investment reviews and statement production.
- Prepare routine correspondence and documentation, including draft documentation in respect of matters that policy requires be submitted to the appropriate internal oversight groups concerning beneficiary/court approval of fees and statements;
- Additional Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
