Job Description

A career as a Payment Services Officer (PSO) presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to use your excellent client service skills to make a difference in the lives of Canadians. We contact clients by phone and use various computer systems within a virtual environment. Our work has the added challenge of production and quality targets to encourage our success while maintaining service standards to Canadians. As a PSO, you will help clients to understand program-specific legislation, procedures and the processes required to receive services and/or benefits. You will use customer service and problem solving skills to gather information and analyze claims for benefits.
We provide extensive training and development to allow you to acquire comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Service Canada’s programs and services. Training is provided through our in-house ONLINE/VIRTUAL training system combined with facilitator led training. Regular assessments are performed throughout the training in order to identify knowledge gaps and promote success in the PSO role.

As a Benefits Officer, your main task would be to help process the Employment Insurance applications effectively. Here is a list of some of the tasks that you would have to do:

  • Rendering decisions with respect to eligibility and entitlement to benefits by applying applicable acts and regulations.
  • Gathering information from clients and employers in order to process applications in accordance with procedures and guidelines.
  • Explaining the basis for the decisions to the citizens concerned.
  • Responding to enquiries from various stakeholders and the general public on all aspects of Employment Insurance.
  • Participating in the exchange of constructive ideas with the purpose of continuous improvement during team meetings.

Work environment

The Shawinigan Processing Center:

  • Located less than 2 hours away from Quebec City and Montreal, Shawinigan is a dynamic city where traffic problems do not exist
  • The office offers a modern and friendly workplace

  • There are free parking lots nearby

Intent of the process

The first cohort of applications will be assessed as early as March in order to staff 24 positions in May and June 2020 at the Shawinigan Processing Center. Subsequently, other selections may be done in this inventory as positions become available. To be able to manage the number of applicants in this selection process, a random selection may be done. This inventory may be used to staff similar positions at Service Canada, Quebec region.
