Steelcon Fabrication Inc. has opportunity for a Field Operations Manager. The Field Operations Manager will be responsible for leading all field operations to construct the structural phase of several projects. Leads and oversees on site construction activities; oversees and ensures all projects plans, contract terms, and schedules relating to are followed, and that the project is executed effectively, safely and within budget. Accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance. Oversees project engineer operations and maintains excellent industry stakeholder relationships to create opportunities and new work.

As a field operations manager you will contribute to our team by:

  • Proactively identifies, manages, and resolves potential problems, work conflicts, or schedule challenges. Develops and implements recovery plan. Works with project engineering team to anticipate and resolve project issues.
  • Creating and influencing jobsite safety culture through mentorship and modeling.
  • Effectively communicates with trades to ensure performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met. Oversees subcontractor coordination and progress.
  • Liaises with client, other site contractors and project management team to ensure projects are constructed as per quality, safety, and contract.
  • Collaborates with project managers and field supervisors.
  • Oversees and monitors erection log and PM Playbook for reports for schedule, costs, equipment, manpower, materials, safety, cost forecast and quality control
  • Monitor’s erection, decking, etc., and reviews work of assigned engineers to ensure project time, cost and quality objectives are met.
  • Understands and actively manages client expectations, client project-specific success criteria, contract and manages relationships.
  • Liaison with project management team, client representative, consultant, and trade contractor relationships.
  • Other duties as required.

What you will bring to this role:

  • Journeyman certificate or post secondary diploma/engineering degree in a related discipline
  • Gold Seal certification, certificate in negotiation or equivalent experience is an asset
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in field supervision preferred
  • Demonstrated experience implanting a strong safety culture
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in the construction industry and company operations, including materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures
  • Experience with diverse project types, delivery and construction methods, and sequencing and timelines
  • Ability to identify opportunities and mitigate potential risks on complex construction projects
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and internal operations systems.

Working on several projects, and reporting to the Field Operations Manager, we are looking for a Field Quality Engineer with relevant industry experience to augment our team and contribute to the growth and success of the company. This is an exciting position responsible for the performance of all quality functions and duties to help carry out site inspections, and site quality monitoring. To maximize your effectiveness, you must develop a thorough understanding of the project scope, reading drawings, writing quality reports, inspecting structural works, preparing inspection and test plans, preparing inspection checklists, and understand NCR management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs on-site quality inspections in accordance with project requirements.
  • Manage Quality for all structural site projects and performs erection site inspections according to project requirements.
  • Develop an understanding of project scope and quality requirements as they pertain to specific area of responsibility.
  • Work closely with Field Operation Manager and other site personnel regarding development and implementation of the project quality system ensuring thorough understanding of the project scope and schedule.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the Projects Quality Management System, work instructions and procedures.
  • Ensure work is performed to established technical requirements defined by project documentation including drawings, specifications, procedures, inspection & test plans and work instructions
  • Align quality control objectives with erection procedures to achieve product reliability and minimize cost.
  • liaison with supervisory personnel, clients, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • liaison with vendors, subcontractors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
  • Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Issue notice of non-conformances and stop-work orders, conferring with clients, document incidents, contract requirements, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Read worker logs, as-builts, quality checklist, test reports and specification sheets, to verify that records adhere to contract specifications.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives by preparing ad hoc presentations about lessons learned to share with Management team.
  • Perform other duties as directed to meet project quality requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related degree
  • 5+ years of experience in related Quality Management in construction or related industry
  • Proven background as a QA/QC Inspector in various scope projects
  • Be aware of and comply with all relevant safety policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Ability to commute between sites as business requires
  • Strong initiative and drive to work independently to deliver results and demonstrate the value of a Quality role to the business
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical abilities with a technical background.

Working on several projects, and reporting to the Field Operations Manager, we are looking for a surveyor with relevant industry experience to augment our team and contribute to the growth and success of the company. This is an exciting, newly created position responsible for playing an integral role in establishing and maintaining methods for safe, accurate and efficient field survey operations.

As a surveyor you will contribute to our team by:

  • Manage all aspects of survey projects including planning, client communication, price estimates, cost-tracking, resource planning and invoicing.
  • Operate Robotic total stations, GPS, and level instruments to perform required surveys.
  • Collect, organize, and record measurements and other data to help prepare drawings, plans, and sketches critical for field erection/construction execution.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS) & Total Station (Leica).
  • Interact with project management team to provide on-time information and solve problems to site-related issues.
  • Coordinate and undertake planning and implementation of survey requirements to facilitate erection/construction activities.
  • Liaison with Quality Manager, ensuring quality control measures are applied and documented.
  • Review project deliverables prior to client release.
  • Perform erection/construction layout work in various stages.
  • Prepare daily work report.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Lay-out critical structures for projects.
  • Complete quantity comparisons between models and As-Built conditions.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs from computer models.
  • Maintain accurate survey records, documentation, and stamped submittals
  • Perform other duties as directed to meet project quality requirements.

What you will bring to this role:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of working experience as a surveyor in civil/infrastructure construction projects.
  • The ability to interpret and use information from design drawings and measurements taken in the field.
  • Experience in a surveying role; construction and engineering surveying experience is a strong asset.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills with a high level of dependability.
  • Proficient in cadastral and engineering surveying methodologies.
  • Experience in monitoring survey work and topographical surveys.
  • GPS and total station experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD and other relevant surveying software and understands the limitations and use of standard surveying equipment.
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently on multiple projects.
  • Ability to commute between sites as business requires.
  • Ability to conceptualize 2D and 3D information.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry/lift 50 lbs.
