The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to lead scientific aspects of projects involving the development of nanomaterials for infectious disease detection, aptamer screening and biosensor development in the Kelley Laboratory (http://www.kelleylaboratory.com).

Qualifications
Qualifications: Requires a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience. The incumbent must be familiar with and have a strong skillset in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, and nanotechnology, and have experience with infectious disease detection, bacterial culture, in vitro selection/aptamers, preparation of biofunctionalized nanoparticles and analysis of the data. The candidate will also have an excellent publication record and be able to prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications/journals. Experience presenting findings at local, national and international conferences is required. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, but also collaboratively with other members of the lab and individuals from partnering institutions. Experience overseeing a research group/providing direction to junior researchers is a strong asset.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work closely with the scientific team in the Kelley group to support the overall research goals of the lab. They will work with a highly interdisciplinary team of chemists, engineers, biochemists, biologists, and clinicians to achieve this goal. Key responsibilities of the RA include: developing efficient aptamer selection platforms, conducting aptamer selection, including hit validation and bioinformatic data analysis, developing biofunctionalized nanoparticles for sensing applications, liaison with our collaborators, training students, the formulation of new research directions, day to day project planning and scheduling.

Beyond these responsibilities, the individual may be expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications and research supervision of one or more students or other trainees. The candidate will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence and will design, direct, execute, analyze and present in written and oral forms novel investigative studies that build on and/or take advantage of the resources and expertise within the lab as well as candidate’s academic expertise.

The incumbent is familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and all University of Toronto Workplace Policies (Human Resources Guideline on Civil Conduct, the Guideline for Employees on Concerns and Complaints Regarding Prohibited Discrimination and Discriminatory Harassment, the University of Toronto Workplace Violence Program, the Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment policy, etc.). The incumbent maintains an up-to-date awareness of provincial and federal law as it relates to the University as a workplace for staff, students, faculty, and librarians.

Key responsibilities include: advising on the interpretation and application of Faculty and Librarian agreements, policies and procedures; case management from a VPFAL perspective of workplace and student complaints involving faculty members and librarians; drafting summaries of complaints and letters; producing a variety of reports in support of Faculty Relations and bargaining with UTFA; providing support to University bargaining committees and the process of implementation of agreements.

The incumbent is required to use initiative, judgment and analytical skills in handling inquiries independently or referring them appropriately. Essential Qualifications:

(MINIMUM)

EDUCATION: 

University degree in a relevant discipline and course work in the Human Resources field leading to the completion of the CHRP or MIR designation; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

IEXPERIENCE: 

Minimum five (5) years’ related human resources experience with an emphasis on collective agreement and employment policy interpretation and application, preferably in an educational institution. Demonstrated experience with investigations and case management, preferably in a University environment. Experience in policy interpretation. Expert understanding of labour legislation and other employment law, including the Ontario Human Rights Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Cardiology at Women’s College Hospital (WCH) are seeking to recruit a Clinician Investigator with training in general cardiology plus advanced fellowship training in heart failure/transplant and cardiac echocardiography. The successful candidate must either already hold or be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The successful applicant will also hold an appointment as Scientist, Women’s College Research Institute at WCH. Effective start date is July 1, 2022 or a mutually agreeable date.

The individual will spend at least 50% of their time in research. The successful candidate will hold an MD and FRCPC qualifications (or equivalent specialist designation) with certification in Cardiology and Advanced Fellowship certification in Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology and ACC/AHA/ASE Level III Echocardiography. Applicants must have or be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The ideal candidate will have advanced research training (MPH, MSc, PhD or equivalent) with expertise in Health Outcomes Research/Methodology.

For the position description of Clinician Investigator, scholarly excellence will be assessed by the presence of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades, and other related accomplishments.

The candidate should have a career focused on providing outstanding ambulatory and inpatient clinical care for heart failure/transplant and general cardiology patients and producing a track record of scholarly work in improving outcomes in cardiovascular care. To maximize research and clinical impact, the individual will be expected to build a heart function/failure program at WCH in collaboration with colleagues in partner University of Toronto fully affiliated academic teaching hospitals. The remaining 50% of the candidate’s time will be spent participating in ambulatory patient care in the areas of general cardiology, heart failure and cardiac transplant care and echocardiography, including approximately 4-6 weeks annually attending on the cardiology inpatient service at an affiliated hospital.

Modifications and additions to lighting systems, high and low voltage distribution systems, emergency power and lighting systems, fire alarm systems, security systems including CCTV, alarms and electronic locking systems, communication systems including voice, telephone and computer cabling systems and other special services. The incumbent acts as the sub-consultant to the Architect (prime consultant) on most projects and prime consultant for projects with a mainly engineering scope.

Professional services include all aspects of electrical engineering as defined by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and encompass client liaison, preparation of preliminary feasibility and designs studies, reports and cost estimates, detailed design layouts, value engineering, preparation of technical working drawings and specifications, wiring control diagrams, application of seal to drawings in the electrical discipline, issuing drawings for permit, construction, tendering and performing construction review, and contract administration. The position ensures Ontario Building Code (OBC) compliance on engineering matters, deals with the authorities having jurisdiction and ensures compliance with the University of Toronto Design Standards and other applicable standards and codes.

Required Qualifi cations (minimum):
EDUCATION: University degree in Electrical Engineering with license to practice in the Province of Ontario; registered and in good standing with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 years’ related experience in electrical design and documentation with demonstrated experience working on institutional and laboratory projects.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficiency in AutoCad, Excel, MS Word, MS Project.

Your opportunity:

Providing administrative support for student co-curricular learning in the department, including support for incoming students, mentorship and leadership development programs, career events, and other similar activities. Providing support for event and program planning, logistics, communications, tracking, and evaluation. Providing support and training to student-led groups. Providing instructional support for specified 100-level courses, or other courses as assigned. As needed, providing front-line student support and administrative support to the undergraduate program. Your responsibilities will include:
