The School of Liberal Education at The University of Lethbridge invites applications for a two-year term Instructor position with possible renewal subject to budgetary approval and program needs. The position will be at the level of Instructor II or III depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant and will begin on December 15, 2021.
This position will include a 50% teaching component (approx. 4 courses per year) and a 50% program planning and service component. The successful candidate will be housed in the School of Liberal Education and will teach primarily introductory level Liberal Education courses and labs, in LBED 1000 and 2000, with the possibility of other courses as appropriate. Program planning will include infusion of the Blackfoot or other Indigenous history, culture, and ways of knowing in teaching and community service; helping instructors in other units develop Indigenous content for courses; development and promotion of the Indigenous Content Course List project; organizing speaker series and other events to connect University and Indigenous communities; and mentoring of Indigenous students as appropriate.
Applicants should hold at least a graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant area and have relevant teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities, values, language, Indigenous communities and their governance, particularly Blackfoot culture or language, are also required, as is relevant experience with program planning, curriculum development, and Indigenous content.
In accordance with Section 10.1 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, selection for the position will be limited to Indigenous/Aboriginal People. Candidates will be asked to self-identify as part of the application process.
