The School of Liberal Education at The University of Lethbridge invites applications for a two-year term Instructor position with possible renewal subject to budgetary approval and program needs. The position will be at the level of Instructor II or III depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant and will begin on December 15, 2021.

This position will include a 50% teaching component (approx. 4 courses per year) and a 50% program planning and service component. The successful candidate will be housed in the School of Liberal Education and will teach primarily introductory level Liberal Education courses and labs, in LBED 1000 and 2000, with the possibility of other courses as appropriate. Program planning will include infusion of the Blackfoot or other Indigenous history, culture, and ways of knowing in teaching and community service; helping instructors in other units develop Indigenous content for courses; development and promotion of the Indigenous Content Course List project; organizing speaker series and other events to connect University and Indigenous communities; and mentoring of Indigenous students as appropriate.

Applicants should hold at least a graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant area and have relevant teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities, values, language, Indigenous communities and their governance, particularly Blackfoot culture or language, are also required, as is relevant experience with program planning, curriculum development, and Indigenous content.

In accordance with Section 10.1 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, selection for the position will be limited to Indigenous/Aboriginal People. Candidates will be asked to self-identify as part of the application process.

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will commence as early as July 1, 2021, subject to budgetary approval. We are looking for a Cognitive Psychologist, broadly defined, who uses an experimental approach and works with human subjects. The successful candidate will be an excellent researcher, teacher, mentor, and colleague. This position requires an earned doctorate in Psychology. Hiring salary will be in the range of $70,000-$85,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position Details

The Department of Psychology is an Experimental Psychology department, with strengths in animal behaviour, development, sex and gender, and perception. We are currently hiring in the areas of Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Data Science. The University of Lethbridge offers B.A., B.Sc., M.A., and M.Sc., degrees in Psychology, as well as a Ph.D. in Evolution and Behaviour. The Department is housed in a new state-of-the-art facility. The world-renowned Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience is just across the hall. Our department recently revised the undergraduate curriculum revision, so the new hires will be part of the new curriculum rollout proposed for fall, 2022.

Teaching duties will include Learning and Cognition, Sensation and Perception, Human Cognition, an advanced course in the applicant’s area of expertise, and contributions to our team-taught second-year course. The ability to teach Introduction to Statistics is also desirable. The Department of Psychology emphasizes excellence in teaching. Research expectations include the development of a robust, externally funded research program and graduate student supervision.

Reporting to the Manager of Counselling Services, the intake coordinator will be the first point of contact for all students seeking counselling mental health support on campus. The main responsibilities associated with this position include:
• Answering phone, email, and in-person inquiries;
• Administering and reviewing client intake paperwork;
• Conducting brief intake interviews and mental health screenings (10-15min);
• Assessing client needs and goals and working with the client to determine appropriate service (i.e., personal counselling, group counselling, community referral and/or other campus referral)
• Conducting risk assessments and referring to emergency services, as required;
• Facilitating a stepped care model in order to fit clients with the appropriate resource(s);
• Referring students to external campus resources and community agencies;
• Offering administrative assistance to the staff (i.e., session bookings), as well as general administrative duties (i.e., room bookings, filing, meeting minutes, website updates);
• Liaising with university faculty, staff, and student groups to ensure holistic delivery of services;

This position is diverse, fast-paced, and requires a tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to assess and balance diverse student needs and priorities. Exemplary problem solving and decision-making skills are needed, as it is often necessary to gather, analyze, and organize information rapidly for a client population with diverse needs. Time-management skills, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask are essential. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to service for students, a strong interest in working with students in a post-secondary educational institution, and the ability to work as a part of a team. The intake coordinator is required to maintain client confidentiality and a high standard of ethics. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are fundamental to the job, and clinical judgement is required.

Position Qualifications

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Work. Preference will be given to those who have front-line counselling experience, experience in crisis/emergency service work, and knowledge of the post-secondary system and the University of Lethbridge’s policies and procedures. The incumbent must be able to determine task priority, complete tasks with minimal supervision, and adapt quickly to changing needs all in a confidential manner. The candidate must have proficiency in a variety of computer applications (InDesign, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and Banner). Strong technical skills in design and marketing are an asset.

The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts boasts exceptional arts programming within the departments of Drama, Music, Art and New Media. Located in the University Centre of the Arts, facilities include state-of-the-art theatre, performance, recording, studio, and exhibition spaces. The Fine Arts hosts over 250 events per year, ranging from guest speakers, workshops, concerts, recitals, drama productions, and exhibitions. The Centre for the Arts and peripheral Fine Arts facilities provide invaluable support services for students, academic research and community outreach initiatives.

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts and is a key leadership role focused on the operational needs of the faculty. More specific responsibilities include strategic direction, business process improvements, organizational improvement initiatives, community engagement initiatives, risk management, human resource management, revenue and expenditure oversight, and policy and best practice development as it pertains to the operation of Fine Arts facilities and all events hosted by the Faculty of Fine Arts.

This position will directly supervise 2 AUPE staff indirectly supervise an additional 2-3 AUPE staff as well as directly supervise numerous student and casual positions in the Theatre Box Office and Fine Arts Facilities.

The incumbent currently working in this position on an acting basis, will be applying.
