Reporting to the Specialist Director, Integration and Governance – Corridor Fleet Replacement program, Corporate Project Management Office, the Master Planner supports Major Programs planning and scheduling by coordinating the integration of project plans developed by Project Managers and Project Controllers, into a Master Schedule. The Master Planner works with the Program Management Office Lead and Project Directors to develop, communicate and ensure consistency of the critical path. They prepare the Monthly Schedule Reviews in collaboration with Project Controllers and Project Managers.

The Master Planner will support Major Programs at VIA Rail, such as the Corridor Fleet Renewal (CFR) Program and Modernization Mobility Montreal Program (MMM). The Master planner is expected to spearhead the coordination of the schedule review and to apply the best practices and health framework checks in compliance to the governance in place. They will work with the Corporate PMO to ensure best practices for major projects.

Responsibilities :

• Prepares and maintains the Master Plan which integrates and organizes all of the Program’s internal and external suppliers schedules/scope of work. Keeps up-to-date all key activities at the Program Management level and ensures consistencies of tasks relationships between all the Project Plans and the Master Plan. Work in a complex project environment considering the multitude of project plans required for major projects;
• Lead working sessions with Project Directors, Project Managers and Project Controllers to develop and maintain a clear and reliable critical path. Monitors progress on critical path and work in collaboration with Project Managers to define mitigation actions. Provides visibility to the Program Management team on schedule progress and potential delays / roadblocks;
• Consistently monitors the health (quality) of the Master Plan and Project Schedules and work in collaboration with Project Managers and Controllers to improve and then sustain the quality of the project plans according to Planning & Scheduling best practices and standards;
• Work in collaboration with the Program’s Senior Risk Manager to run quarterly Monte Carlo simulations to identify potential schedule delays and impacts on the Critical Path. Identifies bottlenecks between schedules and demands and finds solutions to scheduling problems/risks and facilitate problem-solving by presenting options to mitigate.

Requirements :
• University degree in Administration, Project Management, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent;
• At least 10 years’ experience in planning in a production or transportation environment (with significant experience);
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project, Primavera, Excel;
• Advanced knowledge in Monte Carlo simulations related to schedule risks;
• Good knowledge of EPM (enterprise project management);
• Excellent communication and leadership skills;

Under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager, this person will provide technical expertise for the preparation and execution of maintenance projects as well as involvement in the development of railway engineering contracts.Their involvement, both in the office and in the field, will be primarily related to the monitoring and improvement of railway infrastructure for specialties such as: main tracks, yard tracks, level crossings, summer and winter maintenance of the right-of-way, maintenance programs as well as preventive and corrective work on all railway systems. Their responsibility will also include the management of capital projects related to Maintenance Centers which would include developing the need, project scope and work with consultants and contractors in order to realize and follow the project in the field.

Responsibilities :

• Is in charge of capital projects related to Maintenance Centres (planning, preparation and execution);
• Is responsible for the coordination of the various projects/contracts and ensure the proper deployment of activities in terms of quality, cost and time;
• Ensures the conformity of technical expertise and participate in the resolution of problems related to their specialty;
• Analyzes technical plans and specifications of projects and identifies possible impacts in order to carry out the projects;
• Ensures the operational feasibility of projects or work within operational constraints and makes recommendations;
• Leads project or work site follow-up meetings with internal or external stakeholders;
• Ensures the definition of needs, follow up on the planning of the work planned by the different disciplines, and communicates with the concerned stakeholders (internal and/or external);
• Defines and supervises the standards and work methodologies to be applied;
• Participates in the development of maintenance contracts and projects to ensure quality and performance control without deviating from regulatory requirements and standards;

• Involved in safety initiatives and performs investigations when incidents/accidents occurs;
• Participates in the development of tools for the prevention and prediction of wear and tear on infrastructure systems and makes recommendations.

Requirements :
• University diploma in civil engineering or any other relevant field;

• Knowledge of Transport Canada, Arema and/or CN/CP standards;

VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada’s national passenger rail service is currently seeking 3 Railway Car Technicians to work at it’s Vancouver Maintenance Center (Pacific Central Station).

DAY IN A LIFE AS A RAILWAY CAR TECHNICIAN

You will ensure our passenger cars operate at peak capacity year-round, by servicing our national fleet in terms of regular maintenance and heavy repairs.
The interior and exterior of our train cars need lots of love, including maintenance on: Seats, Toilets, Tables, Sinks, Blinds, Panels, Piping (Air & Water), Windows, Brake rigging, etc.
We even train our specialized technicians to tackle the major components such as: Wheelsets, Couplers, Springs, etc.

SCHEDULE
– The position is permanent (40 hours per week guaranteed) and the work schedule may vary (day, evening, night, week-end and holidays).
– Never on-call, your shifts are always set so you can make the most of your time off!
– Over-time is available
– Candidates must be available to work any day of the week as the Maintenance Center is open 7 days a week during peak season.
– Shifts may start as early as 6:00 am and end as late as midnight.

• Serves as lead person to coordinate all activities within an active construction work area;
• Coordinates and implements indirect activities, internal and external, required to support a productive construction execution; including functional staff support, support trade activities, and any other resource necessary to assure a safe and quality execution;
• Is responsible to assure all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and is in full compliance with all pertinent requirements;
• May represent the company as the in situ senior staff position directly overseeing and responsible for the work performed by construction tradesmen;

• Certification, training and experience sufficient for the assignment, and at least 5 years of relevant experience;
