The Housing Support Worker role will allow you to learn about how housing supports work in practical terms, and will enable you to develop the skills required to work effectively with our residents. You will be able to adapt your approach to suit a variety of situations and individuals. We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with residents that may have been vulnerably housed in the past.

As a Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with residents ensuring that each client is provided with person centred support and empowered to make changes in their lives, including linking them in with the necessary external agencies.

To succeed, you will have an excellent understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people. You will also have a sound understanding of the support needs of people with low incomes. Above all we are looking for a motivated, committed individual who has a genuine desire to support people to transform their lives.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field
  • At least one (1) year experience working in a related environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Preferable experience in the community social services sector with working knowledge of community support agencies and resources.

Requirements

  • Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
  • Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

Job Information

  • Hourly Wage Rate $26.23 – $28.91.
    • NOTE – the base hourly rate range is $24.23 – $26.91. The above wage includes the following premium.
    • ON Premium:  An additional $2.00 for all shifts worked that cross midnight.
  • Work Locations 3020 Douglas Street.
  • Work Days Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
  • Shift Time 8:00pm to 8:00am.
  • Weekly Hours: 36.
  • Union: BCGEU.

Cool Aid has been operating since 1968. We have close to 400 employees, sixteen supportive/affordable/assisted living housing sites, three shelters, downtown health and dental clinics, as well as a strong complement of support and outreach services.

Reporting and working collaboratively with the Director Human and Strategic Resources, the Strategic Planning and Information Analyst will assess and report on Cool Aid’s (the Society) progress toward achieving its strategic objectives, provide strategic planning support to management and the Board of Directors throughout the strategic planning cycle, and provide information management expertise in the context of the Society’s strategic priorities.

A significant portion of this position includes the conceptualization of overall strategic planning information needs; the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data; and the presentation of key findings for internal discussion of the Society’s strategic planning activities.

This role involves working collaboratively with a number of internal and external stakeholders, including the CEO, Directors, Managers, program staff, and external community-based research groups.

A narrow selection of the larger scope and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

Collect, compile, and organize data/information required for each of the Society’s quarterly, annual, and biannual performance measures. Undertake data analysis related to agency performance and accountability.
Prepare quarterly and annual balanced scorecard reports for review by management prior to submission to the Planning & Governance Committee and the Board of Directors.
Design and implement performance dashboards and other high-level visual or written summaries for management and the Board of Directors.
Research and develop appropriate methodologies to facilitate the analysis and reporting of agency performance.
Chair or actively participate in meetings and working groups on issues and projects related to the Society’s strategic priorities.
Design and develop appropriate presentation materials to facilitate strategic decision-making by management and the Board of Directors.
Contribute to the development of materials and initiatives aimed at enhancing strategic learning and strategic thinking among both staff and management.
Provide analytical and reporting support throughout all stages of the Society’s strategic planning cycle.
Provide assistance for the development of outcome measurement tools such as internal surveys, and forms. The position also provides support and advice for Cool Aid staff undertaking client or staff surveys.
Develop tracking data systems and associated tools.
Proactively identify issues related to data quality, data collection, data availability, etc., and develop recommendations for review by management and support staff in addressing data quality issues.
Prepare briefing notes, executive summaries, and other high-level documents to facilitate decision-making by management on information management issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

At least two years of related experience in applied research and/or strategic planning.
Previous experience with the balanced scorecard framework, ideally in a nonprofit setting, would be considered an asset.
Education

A degree or diploma in business administration, public administration, or a related discipline.
