Job Description

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, one of Canada’s leading researchintensive universities, is seeking applicants for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the Neurochemistry of Dementia. In accordance with the regulations set for Tier I CRCs (www.chairschaires.gc.ca), the successful candidate will be an outstanding and innovative researcher whose accomplishments have made a major impact and be recognized internationally as a leader in their field
and have a superior record of attracting and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The candidate must propose an innovative, interdisciplinary research program of the highest quality that would attract trainees, students, and future researchers. The Tier I CRC will be expected to pursue an independent, externally-funded research program. The position will provide excellent opportunities to collaborate with distinguished researchers at Western including at the Robarts Research Institute, the Brain and Mind Institute, the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and with first class graduate students in the cognate basic science departments and in the interdisciplinary Neuroscience program. We are seeking a researcher with expertise in the use of novel approaches to study the molecular and cellular basis of neuronal communication and how this is altered in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. This would complement existing areas of research strength within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Faculty of Social Science, while further strengthening the BrainScan initiative within the Cognitive Neuroscience Research Cluster of Excellence at Western. Candidates with expertise in the use of cognitive and behavioural animal models to study functional links between alterations in neurotransmitter function and cognition are encouraged to apply. A successful candidate holding a PhD in a relevant field will be appointed in a probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Associate Professor or a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor depending on the qualifications and experience. Compensation for this position will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience. The candidate will be appointed in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with a potential joint appointment in appropriate departments within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The anticipated start date for the position is to be negotiated.

Financial Services provides financial leadership, services and guidance in support of the academic, research and service activities of Western’s community. Research Finance provides exemplary financial management to our research community.

The Accounting Assistant provides financial and administrative support to Financial Officers in the Research Finance unit. The incumbent is the initial point of contact for researchers and administrative personnel, providing guidance and information related to financial transactions, account statuses, flow of funds and financial reporting. The Accounting Assistant also handles inquiries pertaining to sponsor guidelines and University policies to ensure adherence. As a member of the Research Finance team this role directly supports our research community and Western’s mandate to foster research excellence.

Education:

– 2 Year Community College Diploma in Accounting

Experience:

– 2 years of experience working in a computerized financial environment

– Experience working at an educational institution is preferred

– Experience working with PeopleSoft Financials is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

– Intermediate Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills

– Well developed organizational skills required to effectively handle multiple tasks and deadlines

– Ability to understand and effectively communicate internal and external policies, guidelines and practices to stakeholders

– Strong interpersonal and communication skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner

– Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner and adapt communication style to suit the situation and the audience
