Job Description

Weyerhaeuser Company is seeking full-time entry level production team members at our Drayton Valley, AB Sawmill. We are seeking individuals committed to safety and that have a desire to work in a manufacturing facility while maintaining a positive attitude and good work ethic.

Key Functions:

  • Total commitment to working safely, following all safety rules and company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for daily operation of manufacturing equipment that produces lumber
  • Safely perform regular preventive maintenance and clean up on equipment
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot equipment and issues on a regular basis
  • Involved in ongoing process improvement in the work area
  • Safely perform quality checks and ensures production of a quality product
  • May operate forklifts and other mobile equipment to manage product flow
  • Complete shift paperwork and recordkeeping
  • Attend team meetings and regular training sessions

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Eligible to work in the Canada without sponsorship
  • Willingness to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift, including nights
  • Ability to perform essential job functions of the position, which may include climbing stairs, navigating catwalks, lifting 50lbs, bending and performing repetitive movement tasks.
  • Good communication skills
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing process
  • Ability to work within a team setting
  • Able to perform basic math and use computers
  • Industrial or Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Experience in self-directed team environment is a plus
  • Resume detailing education and work history required for consideration

The Edson facility is located in central Alberta. Edson has a population of 8,646 (2012 Municipal Census) and has a full range of recreational and cultural facilities. This position is part of the Mill Leadership Team at the Edson oriented strand board mill and reports to the Plant Manager.

Key Functions:

The position works closely with the mill leadership team, engineering team members and external contractors and vendors to safely and efficiently implement capital and pool projects within budgetary guidelines.  The successful candidate should be willing to work in a true team environment with a constant slate of projects being implemented. The successful candidate will need to possess excellent organizational skills to manage daily priorities and exceptional leadership skills for successful capital and pool project installations. The position should lead and facilitate the capital execution process for the area while organizing and documenting all required records serving as central process gatekeeper.

The position is instrumental in advising area leaders in technology enhancements needed to improve operating performance and supporting process reliability improvement and strategies. This position is instrumental in updating and owning hierarchy and assets in our CMMS database.  This position also assists the mill in fire risk mitigation work.

Qualifications
  • Exceptionally strong safety values
  • Engineering degree or a diploma in Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of five years of industrial, mechanical, civil, electrical engineering experience in projects

Candidate should have knowledge of:

  • safe work practices in an industrial environment
  • industrial equipment theory and operation
  • project management
  • scheduling, and purchasing
  • Contractor management
  • A working knowledge of ACAD and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Knowledge of and experience leading process reliability practices
  • Knowledge of or have the ability to learn about industrial process equipment: baghouse, conveyors, pumps, fans, burners…
  • Past experience in OSB, chemical plant, pulp & paper or any industrial process plants is preferred
  • Results oriented personality
  • Ability to work independently or in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Effective communication skills
