Job Description

 WSP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Buildings group, located at our Ottawa office. With 2021 set to be another great year for WSP, we are excited to be offering the opportunity to join a diverse, challenging and rewarding environment.

Our Structural team is directly involved with a multitude of different project types, ranging from traditional commercial & industrial buildings, through to specialty buildings in the Rail and Transportation and Energy and Resource sectors. The team thrives by working collaboratively.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design of new building structures as well as structural alterations, renovations, and additions to existing buildings;
  • Preparation of structural integrity and assessment reports;
  • Design and detailing of structure including calculations and computer modeling, for steel, concrete, masonry and timber structures;
  • Manage and Coordinate projects with clients and other disciplines;
  • Collaborate with Senior engineers and drafting personnel to assemble structural drawings;
  • Respond to Client Request for Proposals;
  • Perform site reviews and construction administration services during the construction phase;
  • Coordinate with Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical drawings and attend coordination meetings;
  • Planning and management of projects; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering;
  • Post-graduation degree will be considered as an asset;
  • Registered Professional Engineer with the PEO;
  • Excellent knowledge of structural theory, the National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code and Canadian design standards (concrete, structural steel, wood, masonry);
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP 2000, S-FRAME, and SAFE;
  • 5-10 years of experience in structural design of buildings;
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience;
  • Suitable experience in the design of new and renovation projects for a variety of project types including Institutional (schools, data centres, prisons), Commercial (offices, retail stores, retail petroleum facilities), Residential (low-rise multi-family), Transportation (maintenance facilities, transit facilities), Health Care (hospitals, laboratories), and Light Industrial is required;
  • Seismic analysis and design experience an asset;
  • Should have general working knowledge of other building disciplines;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Experience in structural design or construction; and
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

We are seeking a Proposal Coordinator to join our Transportation & Infrastructure group, and can be located in many of WSP’s major city locations. As a successful hire, you will be tasked with ensuring that proposals are delivered to a high standard and in a timely manner for Senior Managers working on a wide range of projects including water, urban planning and landscape architecture, transportation, municipal engineering and land development .

To be chosen for this role, you must have prior experience in proposal development and effective written and verbal communication skills. A high level of attention to detail and an ability to meet deadlines are both important keys to success in this role .

Some of your specific responsibilities will include:

  • On all proposals, develop a proposal outline document, schedule / facilitate contributions of all parties, ensure RFP compliance, draft standard proposal sections, facilitate reviews, and perform quality control on final document.
  • Participate in proposal strategy and review meetings. Where several disciplines are involved in a submission, coordinate the information of the various disciplines in such a manner that the submission has a uniform and coherent appearance.
  • Write various proposal sections, including executive summaries, project descriptions (qualification summaries), matrices and CVs as required.
  • Where appropriate, work with the graphic designer to conceptualize and integrate graphics to convey proposed solutions.
  • Assist with managing, monitoring and maintaining the proposal database, files, and systems through appropriate information management systems. Keep accurate records Proposals are in progress, completed, Wins, Losses, etc .

Ideal qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of experience in proposal development or similar environment. Candidates with previous experience working in Engineering Consulting or Professional Services firms are preferred.
  • A self-motivated team member, who demonstrates initiative to go above and beyond the task at hand, can effectively multitask and who is capable of handling shifting priorities within a demanding deadline-orientated environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, working towards common goals and objectives.
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet proposal deadlines as required.
  • Strong English language and writing skills – including attention to detail and ability to proofread and edit material, as well as an aptitude for understanding technical terminology.
  • Strong computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office; Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign and Photoshop, and SharePoint Online is desirable.

WSP  is currently seeking Intermediate Transportation Planning Engineers to join our Transportation Planning Team, located at our Thornhill office. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager, this position will be responsible for working on numerous projects for respected municipal clients and private sector developers. Projects include: Transportation Master Plans, Secondary Plans, Area Studies, Environmental Assessments, Traffic Impact Studies, Parking Studies, Active Transportation Plans, Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Strategies, and Multi-Modal Studies

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing and contributing to transportation studies including Multi-modal studies, Traffic Impact Studies, Transportation Master Plans, Environmental Assessments, TDM Strategies, Active Transportation Plans, and Parking Studies;
  • Liaising with clients, project team members, road authorities and other stakeholders regarding project requirements;
  • Analyzing transportation data and conducting traffic, transit and active transportation analysis;
  • Working with a team of transportation/traffic engineers, planners and designers to assess existing and future transportation, traffic and parking conditions;
  • Applying best practice professional principles and undertaking engineering calculations, analyses and studies as required for the design and implementation of transportation, transit and traffic projects;
  • Preparation of technical memos and reports to communicate technical results and recommendations, site plan reviews and design modifications;
  • Attending and participating at client, stakeholder and public meetings;
  • Conducting field studies (site visits, inventories, transit, traffic, and parking counts);

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, urban planning or in another professional discipline related to the job function.
  • Eligible for P.Eng License from the Professional Engineers of Ontario or Registered Professional Planner from Ontario Professional Planning Institute;
  • 1-6 years’ experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, urban planning, environmental planning or a related field;
  • Experience using Synchro/Simtraffic;
  • Beneficial knowledge of HCS, CCG, VISSIM, EMME, and Aimsun;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Good communication skills and leadership abilities;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.
